The cuPbearer: A Guide for associate Pastors and church Leaders
by Kenny Morgan
It is a sad reality that leadership within much of the church today is rife with contention and competition. One of the most strained relationships is that of the senior pastor and the associate pastor. Rather than operating as fellowlaborers, submitted to one another and to the Lord, they can operate as enemies, undermining not only the work of the ministry, but also the unity of the body of Christ.
The Cupbearer is a biblical guide for identifying these sources of conflict and responding to them in a way that fosters unity and supports the authority of God, His word, and those He has placed in leadership. While The Cupbearer is written primarily to the office of the associate pastor, it contains principles for all believers who want to be more effective in ministry and wish to better support their leaders. Using examples from scripture, such as Nehemiah the cupbearer, we learn valuable principles regarding character, shepherding, trust, submission, and contentment. The focus of this book is not just unity for unity’s sake, but unity for the mission that God has given to the church to win and disciple souls from our hometowns to the uttermost.
