Episode 203: Unknown Missionaries Ed & Rachel Erny
Professor of Missiology at the Living Faith Bible Institute, James Fyffe, continues the Unknown Missionary series on The Postscript today with Provost of LFBI Brandon Briscoe. We begin with the interesting story and legacy of the Erny family. Ed was the son of missionaries and grandson to Swiss Protestant immigrants to the U.S. Ed was trained for missions at Asbury Theological Seminary. Ed and Rachel spent 40 years in Asia as missionaries, suffering many trials along the way. Their testimony remains that God used them mightily, with many souls coming into Christ’s Kingdom and glory after them. Ed wrote an autobiography titled “No Reserves, No Regrets, No Retreats: The Life and Ministry of Ed Erny.”

Episode 184: Unknown Missionary Henry Martyn
We continue our unknown missionary series with Professor of Missiology James Fyffe. This time we trace the conversion and missions work of Henry Martyn (1781-1812). Henry left a life of comfort and ease in the West to labor for 6 short and meaningful years in the work of Bible translation and evangelism. His legacy is felt most today from the Middle East all the way through India where his Bibles are still being used for gospel and discipleship-centered church planting movements. Henry shows us believers what it means to burn bright for the Lord Jesus Christ, heeding the call to world missions.

We interview student of Living Faith Bible Institute student Michael Black who ministers in Kansas City, Missouri at his local church. Michael shares how Living Faith Bible Institute has and is preparing him to be a fruitful and effective soul winner and missionary in the heart of the city. Michael leads his church's evangelism ministry as well as a growing Bible study on a local college campus with the intention that fruit from that ministry will one day result in a new church plant.

We discuss the life of missionary Narcissa Whitman with James Fyffe, professor of missiology at the Living Faith Bible Institute. Narcissa moved West with the gospel in the 1800's at a time women were not commonly going to the mission field. We discuss the hurdles she faced and how she went to the Cayuse and the Nez Percé tribes with the intention of spreading the gospel. Lastly, we glean principles from an analysis of her journals for supporting sent missionaries from home churches.

Episode 153: A Zambian Missions Story
Dan Jalowiec joins us today to share his testimony of salvation and how that led to a missionary call to Zambia, Africa for him and his wife, Jan. Dan shares many ways in which he has experienced God’s grace along the way. He discovered the mission field of Zambia on his very first mission trip, after a long career with his wife Jan in optometry. Most recently, Dan and Jan have planned to return to Zambia for more focused cultural and linguistic training; this time they will be without their children who have grown and are trusting Christ in their own endeavors as they have come to maturity.

Episode 146: Missions and the Role of the Local Church
In this episode Jeff Bartell, the missions pastor of First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia, OH and host of the podcast Theology Roundtable shares his missions experience in post-communist Albania. In 1992 Jeff found himself amidst a people who had never heard the gospel. He learned the language, preached the gospel and made disciples. Now that same Albanian local church God used Jeff to plant is biblically envisioned and actively reproducing local churches in other parts of the world. We discuss missions and specifically how the local church described throughout the New Testament fits God’s plan for evangelizing the lost and making disciples of Jesus Christ.
